Airpods Promotional Material
Client
Personal project
Mission
I wanted to create a complete advert for the Apple Airpods set to music. I tried to capture the colour and energy of their older adverts and combine it with the high quality 3D renders of their current promotional material.
I wanted the music to drive the video moreso than the video clips. This approach is closer to how I would imagine a professional workflow with a team or individual collaborator.

Goals and Objectives

Challenges
-
Creating an accurate representation of the AirPods
I struggled to create something this smooth and precise initially but with some trial and error and strict adherence to my reference imagery, I was able to create a finished product that matches the real thing.
One of the reasons I chose this project was the complexity of the modelling process and the relative simplicity of the texturing process. -
Finding and utilising the music
As this was an individual project and I don’t have much experience with music work; finding the right music for the task was a challenge. I picked my music before diving into the shotlist, which was the right decision. If I had done it the other way around, finding the right places to cut would have been very challenging.
-
Building in engaging shotlist
Definitely the most challenging part of the project. I collected countless pieces of reference material from similar projects and previous advertisements. This, combined with my initial vision of the project was instrumental to its success.

Takeaways
-
Start With a Key Reference
I should start with a firm final product in mind, ideally from one of my reference sources. Unlike some of my other projects, I was trying to create a catalogue of different assets. While this has allowed for greater variety, it has made compiling these different shots in a way that looks cohesive difficult.
-
Environmental Detail
I’m happy with the environments but on reflection they look a little too simple. In future, I’ll spend more time fleshing out the environments with photo realistic textures and props.
-
Stick Closer to Reference Material
Though I did adhere to my references, I could have followed them more closely and ended up with a more familiar and professional result. While it’s important to experiment and learn, when creating full projects for real clients, I’ll stick closer to established trends.
