Phone Fluid Sims
Purpose
This project was a simple quick win for my reel.
I wanted to quickly tease the potential of fluid simulations in blender and also demonstrate the power of simple lighting setups.
Why use 3D?
A scene like this would be very doable without 3D but it wouldn’t offer the same versatility and changeability. It was also much faster to put together and didn’t cost a penny.
The process
I started with the Phone, lighing and camera animation. Once I was certain everything was where I wanted it to be, I started in with the fluid simulation work.
Fluid simulation takes a lot of trial and error and tweaking so this project was completed over a few days while working on other projects. Each amendment results in a few hours of recalculating the fluids.
Once the fluid simulation was working, I made significant changes to the lighting setup to maximise the reflections on the water. I used lighting used in car adverts as a reference. They maximise their reflections by using larger, softer lights.
